Choosing Your Ceiling Fan

Having a ceiling fan in any room in your home doesn’t necessarily require that you live in a tropical climates as I do.  A ceiling fan also helps move air around the room making it much fresher.

When it comes to choosing the right size ceiling fan for a room most people overlook this detail and often end up with a ceiling fan that really isn’t adequate for the room size.  Fitting a ceiling fan is a very easy job but before you can do that you need to buy a ceiling fan in the style that you like and in a size that is appropriate for your room.

To find out what size ceiling fan you need, and this refers to the size (length) of the blades you need to measure your room.  Measure the length and width and then multiply these.  Let’s say you have a room that is 20 ft x 15 ft.  This would be 20 x 15 = 300 square feet.  Yes it is that simple!

Now that you know what size of room you have you need to purchase a ceiling fan that is appropriate for the size of your room and all ceiling fans will come with information printed on the packaging to tell you what size room it is intended for.  Here’s a quick breakdown to help you out:

Rooms over 400 square feet – go for a blade that is longer than 56 inches

Rooms up to 400 square feet – go for a blade that is between 52 to 54 inches

Rooms up to 225 square feet – go for a blade that is between 42 to 48 inches

Rooms up to 100 square feet – go for a blade that is 36 inches or smaller
